2011-2012 School Year Goals:

1) Develop a standard sequence of environmental education programming (pathway for students):
  • group providers based on the type of program (school vs. field trip)
  • geographic distribution
  • standards addressed
  • capacity for students
  • FRLP (Free and Reduced Lunch Program)
  • teacher references
  • interchangeability of program content
  • scaffolding of similar programs across PreK-12, career, etc.

2) Look for gaps in coverage of environmental / ecoliteracy programs and encourage providers to fill unmet need.

3) Conduct focus group with teachers to gauge feedback on new alignment.

4) Determine how to roll out the new, voluntary alignment (selected busing, teacher buy-in, provider enforcement, etc.)

5) Determine the role of FOSS (Full Option Science System)/EEI (Education & the Environment Initiative) in the curriculum

Action Plan:

on 8/25/11 this committee worked to distribute the following action steps to other more appropriate committees:

1) Highlight professional development opportunities on the website.
2) Add search engine and map to website and comment fields to provider pages.
3) Create an SF ECOLITERACY newsletter (submitted blurbs by the network agencies about goings-on).
4) Create Ecoliteracy 101: Benefits of Ecoliteracy and Resources Available (which will then be passed on to Service to Schools committee).

Service to Schools:
1) Present to departments chairs, principals, IRFs (Instructional Reform Facilitators) and AP's of instruction (ELS)
2)-Schedule personal meetings with principals of underrepresented schools to pledge support, make special offers, and back-to-school presentation.
